Mushashi Miyamoto — Japan's legendary yet real swordsman  . . . if you don't know anything about him, the rest of this won't make much sense (but then, there's always the Wikipedia page<\/a>. Oh all right then: maybe this one<\/a>). <\/p>\n

So, anyway . . . Canadian web comic artist Kate Beaton<\/a> has retold one of Musashi's most famous encounters: see this fabulous Musashi cartoon<\/a>. <\/p>\n

There are several Musashi references in the Fudebakudo<\/em> book<\/a>. I deliberately included two conflicting versions of how he founded the niten-ryu<\/em> because, since nobody ever checks their facts, I thought I might as well make Fudebakudo<\/em> inconsistent. After all, that's how all good myths perpetuate. <\/p>\n
